Assembly Required Christmas Tree Care Package

My best friend is away at college right now. I didn't want her to have to wait to come home for Christmas to have a tree in her dorm.

  1. This is such a sweet idea! I'll try to make some for my friends, and maybe a life sized pipecleaner tree could save a couple of innocent trees...

    1. Wouldn't it be lovely if it were traditional to make your own tree instead of cutting them down for Christmas? <3

  2. This is a wonderful idea! I have a friend who isn't going to get to go home for Christmas so I think this would be the perfect thing to send her! I love it so much <3

    1. Ahh, do it! We still have to take my friend's package to the post office--but I'm not quite sure if I wanna do it before or after Thanksgiving. I'm nervous that mailing it during a holiday week will endanger it more than usual!

    1. Eep, thank you Abigail! Ahh I'm quite happy with how it turned out, as messy as it looks compared to Martha Stewart's. Messy is way better than perfect anyhow.

  7. THIS IS THE CUTEST. I have been staring at these pictures for a good 2 minutes trying to dissect them in my mind so I can make one! I am obsessed with anything Christmas and the fact that this is miniature makes me want to create my own 10x more. The tree also makes such a spectacular care package, especially if it is used to brighten up a college dorm room! x
All of your crafts are the cat's pajamas. Enough said

    1. Ahhh thank you so much! It's basically four different pipe cleaner snowflakes of consecutively smaller sizes made by twisting two pipe cleaners together, then twisting them together again about half an inch away from the first twist (making a hole in between the twists which makes the center of the snowflake). Then you have four branches on your "snowflake", and then you add two more branches by cutting pieces of pipe cleaner and twisting them into the hole. Then you twist on pieces of pipe cleaner for the "pine needles" or shorter branches. The trunk is made by covering a piece of sturdy metal wire in pipe cleaners so the tree stands up straight. Did that make the slightest bit of sense? Should I have turned this into a tutorial? Probably.

    2. AH YAY THANK YOU! It made enough sense for me to get the general idea... I can free-style it from there! I know what I'm doing the weekend!

Silkworm and I love hearing what other people think. In fact, it's probably our favorite thing, so don't be shy to leave us a note or ask a question!
